Due to the growing fire danger, and other safety hazards, the Homeless Encampment behind the Ross store near Gateway Plaza in Santa Cruz is now scheduled to be cleared out next week. While the camp is being cleaned out, there will be space made available at the San Lorenzo Benchlands, and each camper there will be offered a new sleepingbag, tent, and totebags in which to store their belongings. After the camp is cleaned out, Santa Cruz City Council members will decide whether campers will be allowed back, or if they will be asked to relocate to existing shelters.
