A Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputy prevented a suicide attempt on Sunday. The deputy responded to a report of a man in distress on the Rio Del Mar overpass. When the deputy approached the subject the man attempted to jump the fence on to the freeway below. The deputy was able to pull the man to safety preventing the fall. The individual was transported to a mental health facility for evaluation.
