Services will be held Sunday for a woman who was shot-and-killed Friday during a stand-off with Salinas police. The body of 20-year-old Brenda Rodriguez Mendoza will then be taken to her family’s home in Mexico for burial.
The young woman’s mother tells KION Television that her daughter had recently given birth to a girl, who then was taken away from her by Child Protective Services because of her mother’s longtime drug use.
Mireya Mendoza Hernandez said giving up the week-old child sent her daughter into a deep depression. The shooting occurred after Brenda Rodriquez Mendoza barricaded herself in automobile and threatened police with a firearm.
