A fatal accident blocked the northbound lanes of Highway 17 for the afternoon drive. The 3:30 p.m. accident also necessitated the closure of the southbound lanes for a time, as emergency vehicles used the southbound lanes to get to the scene of the northbound accident. The northbound lanes were re-opened just after 7 p.m. tonight.
