In an effort to give minority residents a louder voice, the Board Of Directors for the Santa Cruz City Schools District is working to change how board members are elected. Board Members are looking at breaking down their District into distinct geographic areas….so that the 7 board members would live in, and be elected solely by, residents of those areas. This would be similar to the way Board Members are chosen in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District, as well as how Trustees are chosen for Cabrillo College; and how Members are chosen for the Santa Cruz County Board Of Education.
A public hearing on the potential boundaries is scheduled for tomorrow evening at the next Board of Education meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Board Room at the Santa Cruz County Office of Education. That’s located at 400 Encinal Street in Santa Cruz.
