Habitat for Humanity Project Approved in Live Oak 01-29-19 17:55 DC

An 11-unit affordable housing project is moving ahead in Live Oak but doing so over the opposition of the county supervisor who represents the area.

The Habitat for Humanity development is at 2340 Harper St. and was approved Tuesday by the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors by a 4-1 vote. It was opposed by 1st District Supervisor John Leopold, who represents Live Oak.

There are concerns about both its size of the project – a proposal to scale back to 10 units failed – and access for emergency vehicles. The supervisors’ told planning staff to work with Central Fire Department to address the access concerns.
