SB Oil Spill 1/28/19 Ci 7:30

Today is the 50th anniversary of the Santa Barbara oil spill that saw three million gallons of crude oil gush into the Santa Barbara coastline from an oil rig explosion.

 The spill grew to the size of the city of Chicago and had a devastating effect on marine life.

 Following the spill… the Environmental Protection Agency was formed almost a year later. Environmental laws passed included…  the clean air and water acts and the endangered species act and the first Earth Day created just over a year later.
