Phone scammers are using Monterey Police Department’s phone number in an attempt to scare residents into paying bogus fines. Authorities say the callers demanded those residents pay $3,000 or they would be arrested. The departments phone number (831-646-3830) shows up as the source of the call. If you receive one of those calls you are asked to report it by calling 831-646-3914.
