A Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputy with help from an un-named resident apprehended a shoplifter on Thursday. At 3 p-m on Thursday, deputies responded to a reported shop lifting of about 100 dollars worth of alcohol at Safeway in Soquel. At the location officers spotted the suspect, Preston Horton, who dropped the merchandise and fled on foot. A deputy and a citizen were able to subdue Preston nearby, and he was booked into Santa Cruz County jail on related charges.
