City economic development officials told the city council this week that over the next few years Santa Cruz downtown is expected to draw close to 1,000 new residents to the city’s downtown core
The council was told that a plan needs to be developed to ensure downtown develops a clean, safe and welcoming environment. Cleanliness and safety are key issues that city has recently begun to address more intensively.
The reason for the influx of new residents are local laws intended to increase the amount of housing downtown.
