Police say a wrong-way driver caused a fatal crash on Highway 101 in Salinas Monday evening. The 7:30 P.M. accident occurred just north of Spence Road.
The dead man has been identified as 68-year-old Raymundo Navarro of Gonzales.
According to the California Highway Patrol, 44-year-old Luciano Medina of Salinas was driving northbound in a southbound lane of Highway 101. Medina crashed his Chevy Silverado head-on into a 2004 Nissan Frontier driven by Navarro.
Medina was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and remains in police custody at Natividad Hospital, where he was taken for treatment of minor injuries he suffered in the crash. Two other vehicles were also damaged, and the investigation is continuing.
