The Pacific Grove Police Department is warning beach goers not to remove shells from the shoreline. Authorities say they have been receiving several reports of shells being removed from beaches. The shells are an important habitat for local Hermit Crab populations. The department recently posted signs notify beach goers that they could be cited with a misdemeanor if caught removing shells from the coastline.
