Opponents of the proposed Santa Cruz rent control measure are arguing for an extension to put a counter argument on the November ballot. The group Santa Cruz Together missed the July 10 deadline set by the city to put its argument against the measure on the ballot. The group believed the deadline was concurrent with the county’s deadline of Aug. 10 for ballot measure arguments.
An attorney for the group submitted a letter calling on city officials to accept the group’s argument, set a new deadline or withdraw the previous deadline. The Santa Cruz city attorney is consulting a state agency on the matter.
