The library in Salinas on North Main Street is set to be demolished after being open for more than 50 years. The El Gabilan library opened in 1966 and shuttered its doors on Saturday, with officials saying the building was too small to serve the area. Officials plan to demolish the building in late summer and break ground on the new library in September. That new building is expected to be completed late next year.
