The Watsonville Police Department will start Bike & Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operations on Thursday April 19th. Officers will be looking for violations made by both drivers and bicycle riders that can lead to injuries. Special attention will be directed at speeding drivers, failing to stop for signs, and failing to yield. Bicycle and pedestrian fatalities are rising in California. Locally the Watsonville Police Department has investigated six fatal pedestrian collisions, one hundred-13 injury pedestrian collisions 1 fatal bike collision and fifty-eight injury bike collisions during the past three years. Funding for this program will be provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
