A Salinas man was arrested on weapons charges in Watsonville last week. The incident took place shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday during a vehicle code violation stop. Officers pulled over a vehicle with expired tags and determined the passenger had provided a false identity during a background check. The passenger was also found to be wearing body armor and was in possession of a loade pistol as well as substantial amounts of heroin and methamphetamine. 37 year old Jonathan Alvarez was booked into Santa cruz County Jail. The driver was cited for expired tags and released.
