A Southern Sea Otter…..that was tangled in fishing line in 2016, and rehabilitated and returned to the wild in July of that year, has now been fatally shot, and “Sea Otter 741” wasn’t the only recent sea otter victim. A skinned otter was found in September, and 3 other otters were shot to death in August.
Southern Sea Otters are still a protected species, so anyone who kills one could face time in jail and a 100-thousand dollar fine. Anyone with information about any of these killings is encouraged to call the Cal-Tip hotline at:
