John Kegebein, Harry Wiggins, and Mary Bannister are being honored by the Pajaro Valley Chamber Of Commerce And Agriculture as Outstanding Community Volunteers. Kegebein, who has been working at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds since 1963, and who was a founding member of the Agricultural History Project, has been awarded the lifetime achievement award. Wiggins, who is a retired lieutenant colonel with the U.S. Army, a scout master in local boy scout troop 505, and a board member of the salvation army for 20 years….has been awarded man of the year. Bannister received the woman of the year award for her years of work on local issues such as saltwater intrusion and groundwater overdraft.
The Business Of The Year this year is Pajaro Valley Printing, and the Organization Of The Year is the Pajaro Valley Historical Association….which was founded in 1940. The Event Of The Year was the Watsonville Airport’s “Fire In The Sky” open house.
