For the second time this week, a hit-and-run incident involving a mother and daughter occurred in Salinas. According to authorities yesterday at the intersection of Wood and John Street a 37 year old pregnant women was crossing the street with her 8 year old daughter when they were struck by a vehicle while in the crosswalk. The driver, 59 year old Carlos Bangos Caliso stopped at the stop sign before accelerating into the crosswalk and knocking the pedestrians to the ground. Caliso fled the scene but was followed by a witness who called 911. Caliso was arrest and booked into Monterey county jail. The mother and daughter were treated and released from Natividad Medical Center.
