The city of Monterey will start enforcing a ban on short term rentals. It is currently illegal to advertise and or rent a room from a home for periods under 30 days in the city. A third party firm has been contracted to locate violators. Those found illegally advertising wii face fines up to 200 dollars a day, if someone is caught actually renting a room, the fine can be up to one thousand dollars a day. Enforcement will begin on October 1st.
