Salinas DUI Checkpoint-8/24/17-1536-PMD

The Salinas Police Department will be conducting a DUI Checkpoint tonight at an undisclosed location in Salinas starting at 6 PM. The location was chosen due to a history of DUI arrests and collisions in the area. The checkpoint will run for about 5 hours.

Studies have proven that DUI checkpoints reduce the number of DUI crashes and the number of injuries and deaths associated with these crashes. The purpose of the checkpoint is to promote public safety, act as a deterrent to drunk/drugged driving, and educate the public on the dangers of drunk/drugged driving.

Funding for the checkpoint is provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
