A new dean has been appointed for the division of social services at UC – Santa Cruz. Katharyne Mitchell has been on the faculty at the university of washington. She is an active scholar, and the author b of numerous books and journals. Mitchell will join the u-c-s-c faculty as a professor of sociology. She succeeds Sheldon Kamieniecki, who retired in June (after 11 years as dean).
