Last year the San Luis Reservoir (out on Highway 152 between Gilroy and Los Banos) was at just 10 percent capacity…..and now it’s full. Last year, the reservoir (that was christened by President John F Kennedy back in 1962) was at its lowest level in nearly 3 decades. In the last 7 months though, the water level has risen 192 feet. The lake holds 2 million acre-feet of water, which is enough water for 10 million people for a year. The reservoir, which is the 5th largest in the state, holds 5 times as much as Hetch-Hetchy near Yosemite, and 100 times as much as the Lexington Reservoir (which is off Highway 17, near Los Gatos).
