Due to the damage caused by the storms in the first few weeks of January, California Governor Jerry Brown has asked the Federal Emergency Management Agency to declare a major disaster. That’s so that the state can get federal funds to make some much needed repairs in the areas damaged by those storms. Governor Brown estimates that the public clean-up will cost more than 162 million dollars. He is not the only state official who has been in touch with FEMA. Local Congresswoman Anna Eshoo also told FEMA last month that the counties of Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, and San Mateo have suffered significant storm damage.
