(07:20) Monterey – A retired Salinas police sergeant has been arrested for assault and battery. Jay Malispina was arrested on December 3rd at the Portuguese Hall in Monterey, after he punched another man. Malispina was charged with battery causing serious injury, assault, and armed with a deadly weapon. Malispina was in court last Friday and pleaded not guilty. He is due back in court on February 24th. This is the second time, since Malisipina retired 6 years ago, that he has been in trouble with the law. It was reported that he embezzled 40-thousand dollars from his mother right after he retired.
