At least 36 people died in Friday night’s Ghost Ship Fire in Oakland. 2 were former u-c-s-c students, and a 3rd had ties to Salinas. 30 year-old Sara Hoda graduated from Merrill College in 2009; and 22 year-old Cash Askew was a kresge college student from 2012 – 2014. Firefighters have searched through 90 percent of the structure so far. Once their search for bodies is complete, the plan is to demolish what’s left of the warehouse. The fire is currently believed to have been electrical in nature; and is thought to have begun in the back on the bottom floor.
