A fundraiser, that’s expected to take 12 to 14 hours to complete, is set to begin early Sunday morning. 13 paddlers from Outrigger Santa Cruz plan to leave Pillar Point Harbor in Half Moon Bay about 2 a.m. Sunday morning…..headed for Monterey Municipal Beach. This year they’re hoping to raise about $30,000.00 for Watsonville-based Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Support Services. The paddlers plan to row a 6-person outrigger canoe in hour-long shifts….and they hope to complete the nearly 90-mile trip sometime between 2 and 4 p-m Sunday afternoon. Last year paddlers from O-S-C rowed 54.4 miles…..and raised more than $17,000.00 for the charity that has provided support to children with cancer (and their families) since 1998.
