July 14, 2016: California Health Officials Issue Advisory for Fish from Elkhorn Slough

(08:25) CALIFORNIA – State health officials have issued an advisory warning against the consumption of certain species of fish from the Elkhorn Slough in Monterey County. The warning states that women younger than 46 and children younger than 18 should avoid eating leopard sharks or large bat rays from the slough, since both species may contain high levels of mercury and PCBs. The advisory applies to the Elkhorn Slough State Marine Conservation Area and not the greater watershed region. (S.G.)
