(07:28) FELTON – A Santa Cruz County Civil Grand Jury released a report Tuesday, criticizing the Felton Fire Protection District for illegally selling a parcel of land. According to the report’s findings, Felton Fire violated state law in 2014 by selling an empty lot for less than market value. The agency also failed to advertise the property to the public beforehand. Additionally, the report found that Felton Fire sold the land without checking the county’s general plan. The jury has recommended that the agency publicly list its real estate annually, publicly advertise all proposed sales, and comply with the law and adopt policies for managing property. Felton Fire has until September 19 to respond to the recommendations. (S.G.)
