(18:26) LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST – New fire restriction have been issued again for the Los Padres National Forest. No campfires are being allowed outside of designated fire rings, and smoking and recreational target shooting are also being limited. In part, that’s because of the continued dryness and in part it’s because (over the memorial day weekend) some campers started a fire at the base of a redwood tree near big sur. It took over 300 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze…but at least they were able to put it out. With the ground and wildland areas even drier now, the concern is that an y fire could spread much further much faster. Forest service will have two additional fire patrol units on hand this weekend because the say the best way to battle wildfires is to prevent them.
