June 9, 2016: Plague Discovered in South Lake Tahoe, Officials Warn

(08:27) SOUTH LAKE TAHOE – The USDA is warning anyone visiting South Lake Tahoe to avoid contact with rodents, following a confirmed presence of the plague. Officials say a flea found on a captured chipmunk at the Fallen Leaf Campground recently tested positive for the infectious bacterial disease. Warning signs have since been posted at the campground and officials plan to conduct additional tests later this month. The plague is a treatable condition and has symptoms that include fever, chills, nausea, and swollen lymph nodes. (S.G.)
