(09:53) CARMEL – Carmel officials have altered the city’s restrictions on bonfires at Carmel Beach. This week, the city council approved a trial program in an effort to clear the beach’s sand of charcoal as well as improve air quality and public safety. The program would allow up to a dozen permitted wood fires and unlimited propane-fueled fires in designated containers. The city will soon begin issuing permits for the fires. A moratorium prohibiting fires at the beach on weekends and holidays remains in effect. (S.G.)
