(22:00) CALIFORNIA – Retiring Congressman Sam Farr issued the following statement today (Tuesday), regarding the passing of Cesar Chavez’s widow, Helen Chavez, who worked alongside her husband as they spoke out against injustice, and championed the rights of America’s farm-workers:
“Cesar and Helen Chavez dedicated their lives to improving the lives of the people who grow our food (many from the Central Coast). Not only did Helen Chavez raise eight children, she managed the union’s finances, attended meetings and signed new members up…..and walked picket lines to support the fight for justice and equality. Her strength, determination and commitment to their cause is the legacy that will endure. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Chavez family.”
