June 5, 2016: Monterey Co Zika Virus Concerns

(11:10) SALINAS- Monterey County health officials are concerned over possible Zika virus infections. As summer temperatures rise, mosquito populations begin to flourish, prompting the county health department to start educating residents on the symptoms of the virus. The Northern Salinas Valley Mosquito Abatement District is also in the process of controlling mosquito populations, and setting up traps to monitor the types of mosquitoes in the county. At this time the two types of mosquito known to carry the virus are not present in the county.
