(7:30) Salinas – A homeless man in Salinas is being called hero after saving two people from drowning on Highway 101. Abby Valladarez and her son Mikey Azvedo careened off the highway in their Toyota scion during storm conditions, the car coming to rest in a flooded culvert with fast moving water. The pair exited the car and were swept into large pipes that traveled under Highway 101. Valladarez and her son traveled 500 yards before nearing Rick Biddle a local homeless man’s encampment. Biddle took action contacting local authorities who arrived and removed the couple from the storm canal. (C.G.)
