(06:52) Monterey – Monterey city authorities are joining forces in an effort to combat the crime and destruction at Laguna Grande Park. The increase in criminal activity is marked by the destruction of the local habitat, with illegal campers cutting down trees and plants within the park. Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District has teamed with the Monterey Audubon society with the mission of opening up the area in hopes that it will discourage illegal camping. Park leaders are also pursuing an outside study to find ways it can be developed both to deter crime and protect wildlife. (C.G.)
