January 19, 2016: Symposium in Monterey Addressing Future of Bluefin Tuna

(07:06) MONTEREY – A symposium is being held in Monterey this week to address the future of the bluefin tuna. The number of mature bluefin tuna has declined to 4 percent of their original population before they were fished commercially. Dozens of scientists, industry representatives and policymakers have gathered at the Monterey Plaza Hotel to address the issue. The goal of the Bluefin Futures Symposium is to open lines of communication between scientists and fisheries in order to rebuild the bluefin tuna population.  The conference was organized by the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Stanford University. The symposium will be held through Wednesday. (S.G.)
