(08:50) WATSONVILLE – Watsonville Community Hospital has announced that it will not publicize the first baby of the New Year. The decision has been made in the interest of child safety. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the tradition of announcing the first baby has raised the risk of infant abduction or identity theft. Watsonville Community Hospital will not publicize the first baby under the direction of its parent company, Community Health Systems, which ended the tradition in 2014. (S.G.)
