(Updated at 11:35) – A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit and run in Salinas. Last week, a 10-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle on Sanborn Road near La Paz Middle School. The driver then fled the scene. The victim was airlifted to a Bay Area trauma center, where he was pronounced dead on Saturday. Investigators identified the suspected driver as Juan Pedro Rodriguez. He was apprehended and booked into Monterey County Jail.

The 10-year-old was hit by a vehicle on Sanborn Road near La Paz Middle School shortly before 7 p.m. The driver then fled the scene. The victim was airlifted to a Bay Area hospital for treatment. The suspect vehicle has been described as a gray or silver car, possibly a Honda, with one broken headlight. Anyone with information is urged to contact Salinas police. (S.G.)
