(06:00) SANTA CRUZ COUNTY – The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter has announced that several raccoons captured in Aptos and Watsonville have tested positive for distemper. There have also been multiple reports of sick raccoons in the Seabright area of Santa Cruz. Distemper poses no threat to humans, but anyone who is bitten or scratched by a raccoon must contact their physician immediately. Owners are being advised to protect their pets and make sure they are vaccinated, fed indoors, and are properly restrained outdoors.
