(08:51) SANTA CRUZ – A meeting was held in Santa Cruz Tuesday night to address the future of the Beach Flats Community Garden. The meeting was organized in response to the Seaside Company’s recent decision to not renew the city’s lease on the land occupied by the garden. The decision was met with opposition by Beach Flats residents and a number of local organizations and businesses. During last night’s meeting, the Seaside Company agreed to extend the garden’s lease by three years. The company expects the city to find a new location for the garden during that time. The city plans to negotiate with Seaside Co. to purchase the land occupied by the garden. (S.G.)
