(08:53) SEASIDE – A Seaside police officer has been cleared in the fatal shooting of an armed man last November. Officials say Officer Manny Fernandez confronted Nestor Cruz after responding to the scene of a domestic dispute. Cruz reportedly armed himself with garden shears while holding his 3-year-old son. He then grabbed a machete and lunged at Fernandez, prompting him to open fire. Cruz died from gunshot wounds to the head and neck. The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office has found that Fernandez acted reasonably in defense of himself and the child and will not face charges. (S.G.)
