(07:06) SAN JOSE – Two Salinas women have been arrested on multiple charges in connection with a tax and mortgage fraud scheme. 39-year-old Elizabeth Calderon and 54-year-old Esther Sanchez are accused of filing false tax returns, theft of government funds, identity theft, and conspiracy. Officials say Calderon used her position as a tax preparer to file over a dozen false individual tax returns. Sanchez conspired with Calderon to submit a loan application containing false information to Bank of America. On Thursday, both women were indicted and made their first appearance in federal court in San Jose. (S.G.)
