October 4, 2015: Hartnell Threat Prompts Changes

(19:45) SALINAS- A wellness check performed by Monterey county Sheriff’s deputies may have prevented a shooting incident at Hartnell College. Last week officers were informed by family members of 56 year old Cary Palmer, a Hartnell student, that he had left a message threatening a shooting at the campus. Officers investigating the report found what is being described as an arsenal of weapons; Palmer has been detained pending a mental evaluation and possible charges. Hartnell officials were not warned of the possible threat until after the investigation. The Sheriff’s office says it has now changed its policy to include notification of threatened areas or people before determining the threat’s credibility
