September 29, 2015: Salinas Man In Custody Following Threats of Mass Shooting

(06:54) SALINAS – A Salinas man is in custody on suspicion of making criminal threats and possessing illegal firearms. Hartnell College student 56-year-old Cary Palmer allegedly left a threatening voicemail on a family member’s phone and mentioned committing a mass shooting on campus. Early Saturday morning, deputies conducted a welfare check on Palmer at his home on King Road. A search of his residence recovered high powered rifles with scopes, an assault rifle, a shotgun, handguns, a compound bow and ammunition. Deputies interviewed Palmer and concluded he was a danger to others. The weapons were seized and the suspect was transported to the hospital for evaluation. The case has been forwarded to the county DA’s office for review. (S.G.)
