September 15, 2015: California Lawmakers Requests Audit of Proposition 39 Spending

(08:06) SACRAMENTO – A group of California lawmakers have called on a legislative committee to investigate how Proposition 39 funds are being spent. Prop 39, also known as the California Clean Energy Jobs Act, was approved by voters in 2012. The initiative aimed to generate billions of dollars for green energy projects statewide and create over 10,000 jobs every year. According to a recent report by the Associated Press, more than half the revenue has been given to consultants and energy auditors. Additionally, the initiative has created only 1,700 jobs since its implementation. Assemblyman Brian Jones and 16 others have filed a request, asking a Joint Legislative Audit Committee to investigate Prop 39 expenditures. The committee has not yet responded to the proposal.
