September 6, 2015: East Cliff Ocean Rescues

(18:22) SANTA CRUZ-Rescue swimmers pulled six people to safety in Santa Cruz Saturday afternoon. State Parks officers and Central Fire crews responded to a report of swimmers in distress at the bottom of the stairs at 36th Avenue and East Cliff Drive. On scene rescue personnel initially found three people caught in rip tides. A Jet Ski and rescue swimmer pulled the swimmers to safety, and then assisted another three people out of the rip tide. Officials say these types of rescues are not uncommon during high tides accompanied by large surf.
