August 11, 2015: Salinas Officials Consider Ban on All Fireworks

(10:04) SALINAS – A public meeting was held in Salinas Monday night to discuss the city’s ban on fireworks. Salinas is one of the top three cities in the state with the highest number of illegal fireworks. For the Fourth of July, residents have been allowed to use Safe and Sane fireworks, which do not fly or explode. However, the city is considering banning fireworks altogether to make enforcement easier. Many residents as well as the police and fire departments support the ban. Some in opposition say banning Safe and Sane fireworks takes away a valuable fundraising opportunity for local organizations. City officials are expected to make a final vote on the ban August 18.
