(16:15) UPDATE – SANTA CRUZ – The 12-year-old girl who was killed in a five-car pile-up on Highway 1 in Santa Cruz yesterday afternoon has been identified. According to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Coroner, Collette “Coco” Lazenby was the victim in the crash. The driver of the Ford E-350 that struck the Prius was 34-year-old Ernesto Plancarte of San Jose.

(18:21) SANTA CRUZ- A 12 year old girl was killed in a five car pile up on Highway 1 in Santa Cruz Saturday afternoon. Authorities say the fatal accident occurred shortly before 5 p.m. when the driver of a Ford truck collided with the rear of a Toyota Prius in a southbound lane between the La Fonda overpass and the Soquel exit. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene, the driver of the car was airlifted to a trauma center. No other injuries from the other three vehicles involved have been reported. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to play a role in the accident which remains under investigation.
