(09:00) SANTA CRUZ – A Central Coast organization has released a ranking of the dirtiest local beaches. The top five list from Save Our Shores is based on the amount of the trash collected at beaches since the beginning of the year. Cowell and Main Beach in Santa Cruz topped the list with 5,525 pounds of trash removed. Ranked second is Davenport Beach with 4,700 pounds, followed by the Elkhorn Slough, Panther Beach in Seaside and Del Monte Beach in Monterey County. The most common items found during clean-ups include cigarette butts, plastic wrappers and bottle caps. (S.G.)
